Fulrigg – Jarl’s Justice
Took on the job of training the boar clan to defend themselves against the Korsca. He actually seems to be a little looking forward to the attack
Mollie uses the first hour of her day to fly around the sky. Throughout the rest of the day, many people in the clans have begun asking for her help for various tasks and she has been more than willing to help.
Astril and Kilbe have started focusing more on keeping watch.
River is flowing again and nature is picking up the growth as spring approaches.
Pijack has picked up the slack on gathering and provided quite a large amount for the alchemist while the rest is being used by him to create various alcohols.
Grokthis disappears without explanation one night, seemingly walked off, but no one seems to know where. He took his traveling equipment with him.
Skeld tries to message him but gets no response.
Gudrun has been helping Jarl Agatha with herbs.
A gnome warlock named Zanvyn Pato also arrived with Gudrun. (Along with a third person that we have no info on yet – Mike’s upcoming character.)
Fulrigg was originally from Stag clan, came to Boar clan 10 years ago. Says he came by choice because he wanted to be a Jarl’s Justice and didn’t think he was going to make it to that position in Stag clan.
Fulrigg suggests that he is going to have a festival in a week or so for anyone that wants to perform to lift the spirits before the impending battles.
Skeld has a long conversation with Zanvyn about how he doesn’t want to be here and he would rather have just let himself be beaten by the Stag clan warriors and shouldn’t have used his magic to defend himself.
Everyone makes their way to the longhouse where Pijack has set up his alcohol stations.
Mollie and Erfidi practice their spells together again.
The group is discussing making a voyage back to the fox clan area to look for any writings about how they trained the foxes to disappear to see if there was anything they did to get around the teleportation issue in the area.
Bronin asks Zanvyn if he could check and see if he sees the runes that Mollie sees on the trees. He doesn’t see them initially, but casts an spell and then sees it as well. He says it’s a form of casting notation and each tree has different information, essentially making the forest a library. He cannot cast the spell on Bronin, but he could copy some of the information down for him. He said it doesn’t seem to be history, just seems to be incantations (spells) but they’re all jumbled together like a puzzle.
Balian talks to Zanvyn about his ring. He says he knows it says These two eyes, but when he tests it for magic, he says it does seem to have a sense life function, but when they test it out it doesn’t seem to sense life from anything they test. The next day, (day before the festival), Balian is sitting in his bunk and his ring glows. They’re not able to figure out why it glowed.
Everyone gathers around the bonfire for the festival. Pijack provides mead for everyone. Skeld and Balian are saddened that it is the best they’ve ever had.
After ale is passed around, Fulrigg starts calling up the performances.
Meatboat performed like bosses and they are now famous in the boar clan.
Gudrun and a few magic users perform “The tale of the three bears”. The magic users create illusions of three bears while Gudrun tells a story about them and creates an illusion of a Troll. (Image taken from the inside of Trollsplitter tavern). Story says that the three bears came upon a troll inhabiting their cavern. They attacked the troll to try to get it to leave their cavern, but it overpowered them and tossed them out down the mountain one by one. They looked up at the cave sadly one more time, then split up, each to their own path. One went far, far away to where he could no longer see the mountain until he came to a new mountain and raised a whole new family there. He had a good life, but never faced his failures. His name was Scorn.
The next brother traveled as far as he could without losing sight of the mountain’s peak on a clear day. He built a new life, that was good, but each morning he would look at the mountain and what he had lost. His name was Shame.
Youngest bear, traveled only to the base of the mountain and found a smaller cave, and stayed there, hunting the same forest as the troll. He stayed alone, never finding a mate, and thinking only about retaking his home if he ever had the chance. He died eventually, never taking back his home. His name is Resolve.
We must each choose how we will deal with defeat (resignation, defeat, or tenacity).
Fulrigg starts looking around, and says he thinks Jarl Agatha wanted to say something. He sends Thorkatla to find her. She finds her sitting on her bed, not reactive. She touches her and gets no reaction. Her eyes are open, but she doesn’t respond. As Thorkatla goes to leave to find someone to help, the Jarl says Oh, Thorkatla are they ready for me? Sorry, I fell asleep for a moment.
Thorkatla shares what happened with Skeld and Bronin. As Jarl Agatha is heading toward the group, she stops to talk to Astril and Kilbe who have come back from their scouting.
Agatha stands in front of everyone and everyone quiets down. She says the festival used to be called the Festival of the Moon (Walpurgis) – stories about the old ways, before our people settled these lands and became clans. The time when our people’s greatest ally was magic, more common than snow and ebbed and flowed through the land. (Gift from the moon). Ancestors believed there were two equal sides to the land (one birthed by the sun – nature, plants, etc; one birthed by the moon – magic, spirit, etc).
They held several festivals to honor the moon and called it the Green eye. It was the source of all magic given to man to shape (it was green back then deeper than any in the forest). Streaks of silver appeared over time until eventually silver took over. The more silver that appeared on the moon, the weaker our connection with magic became, until no more green was seen in the moon (became like today’s moon), magic sputtered and died out for the most part. (Expended? no one knew the cause). Those of us that weild magic are not an aberration, we are the last strands of those that used to be. The hope that magic will be rekindled needs to live in us.
After Agatha walks away, Bronin notices that Jokul has wandered into town. He hands Bronin a leather backpack that has 5 belts inside with spots for holding potions. It also contains a cloak made out of the Bear pelt.
He tells Bronin that he hasn’t seen the clan like this in a long time. He wanders back off to the north.
Skeld spends the night with Veld, the female caster that his sister performs with.
Thorkatla works on getting to be allies with Fulrigg and spends the night with him.
At the end of the circle of longhouses, Thorkatla sees Jarl Agatha hand a backpack to Astril and Kilbe before they head out across a bridge out of the camp. She leaves Fulrigg to catch up with Jarl Agatha to ask her what’s going on. She says that Astril and Kilbe came back for the festival but they needed to return to scouting. She asks Thorkatla what she thinks we will need to do if we survive the initial attack.
Thorkatla wonders if we can try to find a peaceful solution rather than wiping out an entire race. She suggests maybe Pijack can talk to them as no one else seems to have been able to.
Four days after the festival, Bronin is at the treeline with Zanvin and Astril and Kilbe come running out of the forest. Astril heads toward the village center while Kilbe stops to say that they’re coming.
Everyone gathers around the Jarl’s longhouse. Jarl comes out and says the Corsca are coming, hundreds of them. (Small, normal and large). They’ve split into three waves. One is coming straight at us and the others are trying to circle around. They should start arriving within the next 24 hours.
There is a plan, Fulrigg will be giving assignments, but the Jarl wants us 5 to come inside with her. She says we’re doing a plan called a spiderweb, we’re going to send out “webs” of our fastest scouts to get information, injure, and kill. When overwhelmed, they will fall back to another position where there will be another patrol waiting for them with stronger warriors. We will be the spider itself, going up the center to see what we can do about the main wave coming directly toward us.
If all three waves meet up and surround us, our survival is unlikely. We need to try to cripple the middle wave and rejoin Greenmoot’s defense as the other two waves come in.
Mollie will be with one of the strands as she can see in the dark and fly. She will tell her to check back often for reassurance if she needs it as there is no one that can keep up with her.
Ilda has provided potions. 3x toughen skin; 3x increase eyesight (easier to focus); as many healing potions as we want. Bonus action to drink a potion from belt, full action to drink one from anywhere else. Bronin hands belts to each of us. Thorkatla and Erfidi are each taking 1 increase eyesight and 7 healing potions; Bronin, Balian and Skeld are each taking 1 toughen skin and 7 healing potions. Skeld taking the extra eyesight potion as well. Combat potions last approximately 10 rounds.
Tough skin – Barkskin – +1 AC
Increase Eyesight – +2 to Hit
Minor Healing Potion – +5 Hitpoints
We head out marching toward where we’ve been told the main force is coming from.
Eventually we hear a multitude of sounds, some kind of yapping. Thorkatla climbs a tree and sees about half a mile north, red flames are coming up over the canopy with black smoke pouring out.
As we get closer, can tell that the forest is on fire and there is a twisting amalgamation of blue and orange flames.
We come to a break in the trees where there is a clearing and there are some buildings in the clearing (longhouse, shed, etc). Campfire that seems like it was lit, but now is out and it has spread into the storehouse, longhouse, etc. Piles of stacked wood (lumber), that has gotten on fire and it is what is burning blue.
Largell Velkurisson is on top of the storage building and he is using what looks like the lid of a barrel as a shield and is ducking behind it. There are about a dozen of the little Corsca attacking him.
Erfidi demolishes 5 at once with a fireball, Balian picks one off with his longbow, Skeld kills 2 with shatter and we proceed to pick off the rest.
As the second to last one is dying, a bunch of larger corsca run out of the forest, they stand as tall as a man and have thicker looking skin. They all weild some type of melee weapon and a shield.
We start getting attacked and Largell calls out that he can save himself, but his girls are inside the house.
During the fight, Bronin goes inside and sees two 20 foot long Dire Frost Crocodiles in cages. (See image Dire Frost Crocodile)
Another group of Corsca approaches, again unlike anything we’ve seen. Several seem to stand about 10 ft tall. (see Korsca Gor image) Accompanying them is a normal size Korsca but he is all white with red streaks and a scorpion tail instead of a lizard tail.
One of the giant white crocodiles came out of the building and didn’t seem to be interested in us.
Erfidi cleared out 9 of the newly arrived Korsca with a second fireball.
Several Korsca came up to surround Skeld. Skeld damaged several of them with a thunder wave.
The other gator came out and started attacking Korscas.
